Poor people are very vulnerable to abuses in many ways. Some people are as desperate for money as to sell organs to other people to get money. An example will be selling kidneys, which is short in supply for transplants. In this kind of shady business, the rich pays the poor to get a chance to live a longer life. 56% of those living in poverty are woman, 36% are children, and the rest are men. In 2007, the overall people who live in poverty is 37 million people. Poverty is not just in America, but in every place in the world. There has been programs that is helping those that are in need. An good example is freereice.com (http://freerice.com/) which helps donates free food. Some of the poorest countries includes Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kiribati, Laos, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, and many more. There are many poor countries that needs help even today.

White fang comparing book and movie

If I were to compare the book and the movie, I would say they are two different stores. The main character is suppose to be a wolf-dog named White Fang. But in the movie, instead of the dog, the main character is a fat American guy that comes along looking the gold. I prefer the book over the movie. Some scenes in he movie was switched and added, making parts of the movie to be confusing and dull. But the book also have flaws, the author tends to get over descriptive. Just the fact that the main character is different in the movie than in the book, the story can be changed alot. Basically almost all of the story line and ending was affected by this. The history of the dog White Fang was changed as well. Instead of being born from a hole that suddenly appeared in the ground, White Fang was suppose to be born in a cave in the wold. Different characters appear and die which can make me sometimes think "What happened to ......"

Opposition Leader Wants to Stop Zuma

With the national election being held next Wednesday, The opposing leader, Helen Zille started a campaign to stop Zuma. While it may be imposable for her to keep Jacob Zuma, the leader of the governing African National Congress (A.N.C), from being president, she hopes to stop the A.N.C from getting two-third of all the votes and make changes to the Constitution. The A.N.C. wants to defend itself “from corruption investigations, even if it means undermining the constitution,” she warned that South Africa can become a “failed state.” The governing party has held a two-thirds majority for the past five years without making these changes.

Culture of Africa

In out humanities class we read two stories ("Fafi's Sheep" and "The Three Tests") and we are are suppose to write a blog post about what we learned about their culture after we read to story.

Since lots of people that live in Africa can not read or write words, they tell stories. The stories are usually being passed down from grandfather to father then to children.

In the first story ("The Three Tests"), a prince went traveling around the ocean to search for his brothers. On his way, he met lots of friends. There are lots of supernatural occurrences in the story too. The main character was able to see genies. The next story was about a boy who never listens to anybody. One day, his pet sheep escapes and he was able to lear his lesson to listen to advices.

Most of the people in Africa were poor. They lived in communities so the chance of getting attacked by other people or animals will be less. The jobs there are mostly selling products. Instead of horses, they race with goats and sheep. People there live in small round huts made of mud and grass. It was not a rare sight for a child to get beaten by a stick. The clothing they wore was very simple, it was rare to see a person wearing jewelry or precious stones.

There are lots of other stories. Some about daily life and some about adventures, but all the stories I have read so far have included a moral.

In humanities class. We are learning about Africa. We read some of their websites bout their daily life and what they do. Our teacher told us to make a journal of our daily life on the blog and explain how ours is different from theirs.

Once you get home from school, nothing beats playing on the piano, though I want a real one. I never really like playing songs I am told to play be my teacher...

A drink, I only like cold drinks.. Then I will stuff my face with food.

RELAXX~~~~ Play wii or read manga on the computer.

Homework.... You can never be done with it. Time goes so slow when you do homework....

If I don't have anything else to do or don't need to go to any classes then I will start to do random things (Read manga, watch TV, run around, draw, piano, you get the point)

Difference I have with the children in Africa in my daily life.

-I have electricity, some of the places in Africa does not have electricity .
- I don't need to plant my own meals. Some schools in Africa has their own vegetable patch for them to provide food for the people at the school.
- I live in an urban area, most south Africans live in more rural areas.

Humanity- Teenager Stabbed at School

17-year-old Pietermaritzburg pupil was stabbed and died at on Monday. A KwaZulu-Natal police said

"Today police received a report of a stabbing at the Amakholwa High School in Snathing. On arrival at the scene, police found the body of a male learner, who has been identified as Nhlanhla Buthelezi, on the ground outside a classroom," said Superintendent Henry Budhram.

The pupil that died has been stabbed three times in total. Some people has said to see two males entering the school through a hole in a fence.

Tourist makes second Visit to Space

A Russian rocket has blasted off into space heading to the International Space Station with an American billionaire on board. Charles Simonyi is the only tourist that has been into the orbit for two times. He has paid a total of £24 million for this special privilege. During the 13 days, he will be helping with projects and taking part in live broadcasts with schools. He is traveling with two astronauts that will form a six-men group. Until now, only three astronauts have lived on the station at one time. Doubling the number means they will be able to do more scientific research. But at the same time, it will be bad news for other space tourists because there will be less room for visitors.

Seal Hunt

Animal rights groups are expected to be protesting about this years seal cull which takes place in Canada. This hunt takes place every year and up to 280,000could be killed in one hunt. Surprisingly, the Canadian government allows people to kills these animals to continue hunting them. For people are saying that they can get money from the seal's fur and oil. The animal rights group are stating that this is cruel and a ban on importing the products into Europe is looking more likely. Some of the animals get killed by shots while the others could get killed by large clubs. The Canadian authority says that the animals who are killed are killed quickly and does not feel any pain. America, the Netherlands and Belgium have already banned Canadian seal products.

Obama Grows Vegetables

Obama, president of America and his wife, Michelle, helps dig the first vegetable and fruit patch at their new home, the White House. The First Lady and a group of school pupils helped build a kitchen garden which can help feed Obama and his family along with official visitors. Talking about her children Malia and Sasha, she said: "My girls like vegetables more if they taste good."An L shaped garden near a fountain on the South lawn included vegetables and fruits that were spinach, carrots, lettus, and black berries. There will also be a beehive. Obama hopes to provide the First family, staff and visitors with their own White House honey.6 students that helped with the garden will be back next year to harvest the foods. Some of the food was also decided to be donated to charities.

Whaes and Dolphines Washed Ashore

Rescuers were trying to rescue 80 whales and bottle nosed dolphines that was stranded on a beach on Monday. However, most of these marine mammles are dead. These animals were washed on the beach by strong waves. Experts are planning to move them to calmer bays. They want to release the whales back to the sea, where they are most likely to survive. Western Australia's Conservation Department said the whales and dolphins were washed up a long stretch of beach that was about four miles long on Monday morning. At first people thought that they were killer whales. But when they looked closer, they discovered that they were long-finned pilot whales. It is not unusual for whales and dolphines to get stuck on beaches while they are travelling, but it is unusual for whales and dolphines to get stranded on the beach together.

I could use natural resources to make shelter and (try) to hunt wild animals to eat. If I can't catch any animals to eat then I could try to gather some wild (edible) berries. In winter, I would use the fallen leaves and twigs to make a fire. I could find a long tick to use as a weapon.

No more music on youtube!?

What is geography?
Geography is the physical features of the surface of the earth.

Theme 1: Location

Where are you right now? Describe your location in as many ways as you can.
I am at my school in the math classroom. There is a hallway and lots of rooms branching from it. At the end of the hall is a small platform with cushions on it. At the left of the platform there are two stairs one leading to the second floor and one leading to the fourth floor. But if you keep on going straight you will end up in the elementary side.

Theme 2: Place

What do we mean by the terms “physical, human and cultural” when we describe a place?
Every place have characteristics just like humans. So we refer that as human characteristics. The physical characteristic is what the land or physical form of the place is like. Then the cultural characteristic is what the culture of a place is like.

Theme 3: Human-Environment Interactions
How do humans adapt to and/or change the environment?
How do we depend upon the environment?

We adapt in the changes of environment in lots of ways. If the weather changes cold, people who are going out will change in warmer cloth, and when it is hot people wear less (short sleeves, ect.). But we depend on the environments animals, plants, soil, water, and a lot more. We need soil to grow plants and water so the plants don't dry out. We also need the animals so we can eat meat.

How does movement affect your daily life?
What “items” are being moved that you interact with on a regular basis?

We move with every movement we make. Cars and other transportation are all things move around us. We can make anything around us move when we want to. Movement affects our life because if there was no movement everything would stop.

Former religion- People who were moved or converted from one religion to another.

Functional - Is anything to do with society. An example is describing religion as something which binds together a community or which alleviates a person’s fear of mortality.

Language Arts Big Winner

Introduction
Congratulations! You have just won a very large sum of money. Will your life change now? Everyone knows you have won the lottery.

On the first week I will probably spend all the money. I will either store all my leftover money somewhere and forget it in about 3 seconds after I store it or maybe give it out. So... Something like.

Day one

Go shopping for video games. Buy all the video games until I am content. I will buy new platforms for video games and the actual game. For the platform I will buy a new Game Boy advance, PSP, Xbox (maybe), and a PS2. THere are more but I just can't think of any more right now. For the games I will just ask somebody else to burn it on a CD for me. There will be alot so I am not surprised if I will spend over half of my money I won in one day. But I also might limit myself to how much I spend but I may not be able to. After that (on the same day) I would go buy a new ipod (maybe MP4) and just walk around the store and buy things for my macbook. By that time I should have spent alot of money.

Day two
I will go shop for a new piano and piano music sheets. I will most likely get a grand piano (an upright piano if it is very good) to replace my keyboard which is a Yamaha. If I still have lots of money then I will buy a black Stainways grand piano. Some Stainways piano's price may get to a price of 100000 bucks. But of course I will try to get the cheepest (but not a bad one) Stainways piano. Then I will shop for the piano music sheets. The music sheets are very cheep so I will buy alot. If there isn't the ones I want I will shop for it online.

Day three
I will go buy top class art suplies for digital art and ones to be done on paper. I guess I will do this for no reason but for fun. (Note! Lian says: Then you should pay Lian, the brilliant art teacher, 50000000000000000$, for her to teach me how to draw and be awesome. Except I failed, but who cares, a brilliant person like Lian deserves all my money!)
Then I would open up like 5 national parks in different places in the wold that covers a huge amount of area (unless the area is ver small but hopefully not too small) for the animals to live in (in other words for fun). Then I will plant lots of trees just because I feel like it.

Day four
I will go buy anything that I missed. It will be quite impossable to have any money left but since Mr. Laffin said that I can have as much as I want (in other words never gonna be able to finish using them) I will give out lots of money to everbody I see for fun and shove all the money all in the bank and forget about it in three seconds. But then now I think about it I think having all these money is useless so I will throw all the money to somebody I think I can trust and leave some for myself enough for me to survive (which would still be quite alot).

Day five
Nothing much now. I will sit back and relax. Try out my new piano, draw for fun, and play new video games, go running and do some exercise. Then I guess nothing else.

But I also might throw everything away on the first day.

Osaka, Japan

Osaka Japan is a city located in Japan. The population in the city is different at night than day. At night time the population is 2.6 million while in the morning it has a shocking number of 3.7 million which would make it the second to Tokyo. Osaka was traditionally considered to be the "Tenka no daidokoro" which means "The Nations Kitchen" when translated into English. At 1889 the area of Osaka was about 15 km squared. But after the city had three expansions it now has an area of 222 km squared. To the west of Osaka there is the Osaka bay. But other than that Osaka is surrounded by other cities.

The picture above tells about the average temperature in Osaka. The government's income at 2004 from Osaka's city product was 21.3 trillion, which is 1.2% more than in 2003. Several major companies has a headquarter in Oksaka such as Panasonic, Sharp, and Sanyo. I think Osaka is formal and functional.

Isolating Variable

In science we needed to make a boat that can float on top of the water. In the first day we were given all our class time to make a boat out of paper, tape, and straws. We were divided into four teams to make a boat. Then when the next class starts we went down to the fish pond (there was no fish) and test them out. Each boat was put on water. There were one person who puts the stoppers on the boat and one person counting how many stoppers were put on the boat.

When we made the boat everybody gets one meter of tape, three pieces of paper, and three straws. So everybody has the same material but everybody needed to make their own design. When we tested only stoppers were put on the boat and nothing else, so I think that this experiment was about the design. Overall I think the variable was controlled because every body received the same things but it was just the design that is different.

Language Arts 3 Questions About Money

1) How would you change if you had a lot of money? Would your personality be different? 
I never got super rich by myself so I don't know. But if I have lots of money suddenly right now I don't think my personality will change. If the money I have right now is alot I would 90% go buy some new supplies (piano, color pencils, video games, ect.) and stuff the rest of the money back into my closet/bank and totally forget about it in 1 second. So I think overall I wouldn't change.

2) Would you ever take a risk to reach a goal? 
It depends on the kind of risk. If the risk is like jump down from the 5th floor and you will become a good pianist (Note: I like piano) then I would ignore it. The reason I will ignore it is because one, I can becaome a better pianist without some crazy guy telling me to jump off the 5th floor of a building. Two, I might not necessary work and this method has nothing to do with piano. Even if that method works I would rather finish a goal myself. But besides that kind of crazy risk the only other kind of way to obtain my goals is to obtain it by myself. So overall I think no for crazy risks and yes for SOME kinds of risks.

3) Would you ever hurt members of your family just so you could be accepted by your friends?  
I don't really understand the question. I don't really elieve than one of my friends will come up to me randomely and say "Hurt your family or I won't be your friend." I think there would usually be a reason behind it. If the reason is weak and has no gain to either of my friends or me then I would definatley not do it. If my friend was to tell me to do it because one of my family made them mad (something like that) then I would just ignore them. But overall I would most likely say no...

£14,500 for a Bag of Sweets

There has been people selling bags of sweets at £14,500 for charity. There was an auction website selling the last pic'n'sweets from an Woolworths shop. Ed Adams, the guy who managed the workshop in Bromley, South London filled up the bag just before he closed his store. Then he put up the 800g bag on the internet for a bid. Finally, after 115 bids he agrees to sell it at a high price of £14,500. The money he made was givin to a charity called Retail Trust. There was fizzy cola bottles, rhubarb and custards, strawberry bon bons, Turkish delight, white mice and pineapple cubes in the bag of candy. Nigel Rothband, Retail Trust chief executive, said: "It's taken us by surprise. It's very exciting and much more than we were expecting."

"Fake Rain" Turns to Snow in China

Beijing in China used a very unusual way of ending their doughts. They sprayed a chemical in the clouds to make it rain. This prosses is called cloud seeding. As rain and snow fell onto the city to end the 110 day drought, One of the longest drought Beijing has experienced in 38 years. But this wasn't the first time China has used this method to end dry seasons. Cloud seeding has been used in China's northern countrys because they suffer from lots of droughts. Even thought this method ended the drought, some people believed that it is wron. For the increase of rainfall might mean less rain in other areas.

Old Man and the Sea (Whaat did he do wrong?)

To me I think that he wasn't thinking about the concenquences when he went out to fish. He also didn't prepare eough materials to go out to the sea for three straight days. Then when he caught the fish, he tied the fish yo the back of his boat instead of cutting it to pieces and put them on th boat. Another thing I thought was weird was that on the first day he only brought one bottle of water and was short on water that very day. But how did he survive three days with the sun shining every day? The book was also kind of boring because about 80% of the book is talking about the old man sitting on the boat.

The first stop is here at Hsinchu in Taiwan. The climat here is Marine Tropical with common natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. The highest temperature here is 39c while the lowest temperature here is 6c. This place is also known as "The Windy City" because of its strong winds. In Taiwan there are lots of mountains ranging from South to North. Some mountains even reaching over 100 meters.

Australia, Coral Sea Islands

The Coral Sea Islands in Australia is a small and mostly uninhabited group of islands. These island covers 780,000 km2. There are about 30 separate reefs. The climate here is tropical. There are natural disasters here such as cyclones.

Hawaii, Honolulu

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii. The climate here is tropical with the highest degree of 95F and the lowest of 53F. This place if made of mostly volcanoes, underwater volcanoes ridges, sea mounts, and trenches.

Oregon, Portland

Portland is a city located at Oregon. It's climate is Marine west coast. Winters can be very cold, the lowest degree -19c and the highest of 42c. There are mountain ranges and rugged cliffes in Oregon. Snowstorms and hail may appear in the winter.

South America, Brazil

Brazil is a country located in South America. It is a large country that covers nearly half of South America. Brazil has 5 kinds of climates, equatorial, tropical, semiarid, highland tropical, and temperate. Brazil has different kinds of ecosystems, such as the Amazon rain forest. There are different kinds of landforms depending on where you are in Brazil. There can be large rainforests of high platues. The average temperature in Brazil 25c.

China, Beijing

Beijing is a city located in China. It is built at the tip of North China Plain. Its climate is a humid continental climate. The average temperature in January is 1c and 30c in July. The air quality in Beijing is very bad and there are dust storms. Beijing is the second largest city that is smaller than Shanghai and is the capital of China. This is the city that hosted the 2008 Olympic games.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is one of the most populated places in the world with a population of over 8 million people. This places climate is a humid subtropical climate with hot humid and mild cool winters. Snowfall will happen irregularly but occurs almost every year. Tokyo has been known to be hit by several strong earthquakes. One earthquake was estimated to have a magnitude of 8.3 and killed 142,000 people. The average temperature Tokyo has ranges from 4c in January and 27 in August. Tokyo's main landforms consists of mountains, rivers, lakes, and valleys.

Mitiaro, Cook Islands

Mitiaro is the fourth island located in the Cook Islands. It has volcanic origins and is stands in waters that is 14750 deep and its widest point across is 4 miles. Its center is flat and swampy with two freshwater lakes. The population here is very little that has less than 100 people. Aroung id surrounds a belt of fossilised corals between 20 to 40 feets high.

Wrestling Crocodiles

Animal experts in South East Asia has been wrestling rare crocodiles to gather informations on them. They are trying to save one of earth's rarest reptiles. Crocs are being tested at a wildlife center in Cambodia to see if they are the rare Siamese crocodile. They were so rare that they were thought to be extinct at one point. There are 250 Siamese crocodiles left in the wild and experts are starting a breeding program for them, hoping to save these endangered reptiles.

A plague of caterpillars at Africa in the country of Liberia are eating away farmers crops. With these valuable crops gone, farmers will halve to suffer food shortage and dirtied water. The president of the country has declared a state emergency. 4000000 in 100 villages has been affected by these pests. Caterpillars is a common species in Africa, but experts say that these are Achaean caterpillars. Even though these pests are tiny but they can travel up to 60 miles a day. Fortunately, these bugs are easier to get rid of because they stay above ground. Now the country are using chemicals to get rid of these caterpillars.

Science SMASH day

For smash day we needed to make a telescope-like thing to look out into a box without our hands or heads above the table. We were given 10 pieces of paper, 4 mirrors, tape, and a cardboard box. My team and I modified the desighn for about 3-5 times. After we modified it we put it to a test to see if it could see what was inside the box, if it didn't work then we jusy redo it again. My team drew a picture of the design before making it. Then we gathered the materials we needed for the design. If I were to give a tip for people who are making this then I would say that don't rush the project and discuss it first.

Postman Rescues an Otter

A postman found a baby otter on the Scottish roadside and takes her on a 350km tour in his mailbox. Oria, the otter cub was found the side of the road by Kenny Wilson near Stow. The Kenny stopped to scoop the otter up to keep her warm, then got the otter kitten milk and fed her through the tip of a ballpoint pen. He even took Oria on a rally before taking her to the animal rescue center. Mr. Wilson thought that she wasn't going to survive because she was very cold when he found her. "It looked as if she had either been abandoned or her mother had been hit by a car."he said. The reason he bought the kitten milk was because of the squeeking sound she made, which made him think that she is hungry. Oria eats nearly £15 of salmon every day. But the fishermans has stepped in to help. She is being very well cared at the rescue center.

Ads on Kids TV Should be Banned

A group of people called The Good Childhood Inquiry are looking at how kids live their lives. People put advertisements on TVs to offer their prouducts but these experts say that unhealthy ads that includes alcohol should be banned until 9pm. They say that TV channels aiming for kids under 12 should meet these requirements. Penny Nicholls from The Children Society said that "What we do know is that having things doesn't necessarily make you happy, and the thought of not being able to have things often makes people very unhappy," she said. Even though banning advertisements from children TV is only recommended. This rule is very unlikely to happen because they would need to convince the government to make this law. Some people think that this rule is useless because kids will still see the advertisments when watching other shows such as baseball with theirs family. Not everybody agrees with this idea and some say that some of the ads are actually good for their kids.

Life After the People

My homework is to write about what I think will happen if all the people on earth dissapeared except for people in Taiwan.

First I think that the people in Taiwan will go and investigate the other countries. Taiwanese people might move to all of the world. We might ship in goods that we cannot get in Taiwan from other countries. Over years the people in Taiwan might settle in those places. Over thousands of years the people who move to other places they might develop their own culture and way of life. Eventually there might be different nations. But before the people moved to the other countries, I think it will be like the what the movie "Life After the People" said. Even thought it might not be thousands of years before the Taiwan people go explore those places, it will still take couple of years at least. At the first week the animals in the houses and zoos might die, the electricity will shut down, and grass and moss will grow all over the buildings. Then in 1 year the wild animals there might thrive. In 5 years the places will turn into a forest and stay like that until the people go there.

In humanity class I needed to write a blog post about a reflection on a project.

The project I am going to do a reflection on is a science project where we needed to do research on two body systems. I was to do the muscular system and the skeletal system. Then I needed to make a 3d poster showing the bones and muscles of both arms and legs.

One of the student outcomes I used the most I think was problem solver. Sometimes during the project there may be mistakes such as "I stuck the things on the poster the wrong way" of "There aren't any more information." and more questions like that.

Pelican Illness

Animal experts are trying to find out why hundreads of pelicans are bexoming ill. A number of dead or ill birds has been spotted along the Californian coastline. Rescue workers are trying to help these ill birds but they don't know the cause of the illness. They are managing to save the pelicans at the cost of $500 for one bird. Some of them have been found far away from their homes and seen in places such as gardens, roads, and feilds. Experts are going to use an blood test to see what is making them ill. The ill birds will look thin, confused, and have discoulored patches on their feet. These pelicans was almost extinced in 1960's and 1970's becaude a very harmful pesticide got into their food. The specie did not recover until 1972.

Famous Climber Dies

The youngest British climber to climb mount Everest has been killed with another climber thats from Briton too in an accident in the French Alphs. Ron Gauntlett was from Sussex in South England. He was only 19 years old when he climbed up Mt. Everest in 2006. His 21 year old friend was ice climbing along with him in Chamonix reigon when tragedy struck. His family were all shocked. "We can only take consolation that he died doing something that he loved." said his mom Nicole. The other climber was named James Atkinson and was also from the same place as Ron. In November 2008 Ron Gauntlett and his friend James Hooper, from Somerset, waere named the National Geographic 2008 Adventure of the year. They were also given an award after going through a 22000 miles journey using humen and natural power to go from the magnetic North to magnetic south.

Reasearch Reflection and Magic School Bus

Research Reflection:
For the past month we have been research body systems on our own.

A few things I like about this research is that we get to do out research instead of the teacher telling us what to do. Our teacher gives us very little questions but allows us to go very deep and understand more about that question. We were allowed to go to different websites to find the information we need. I also liked the test. The test is to find out if we did enough research. We were aloud to search the answers to the test if we were stuck.

Things that I didn't like about this kind of research is that sometimes information is very hard to find. Some of the websites you go to will give information about totally different things. The test we received consists of some questions that we didn't even need to research so we had to find more information on the website.

I I think that our teacher Mrs.Smith planned it this way so we can learn to work independently. In the future we might need to do more independent work so this could be a good practice. I also think that it would be easier because then she can just give out 6 questions instead of lots of little questions,

Some suggestions I have for this project is to put a list of websites first. Some of the websites will contain very little information so it was very hard to answer some questions. If there were lots of websites from the start we could have get the information from those sites and then go to different sites. The next suggestion I need to give is about the test. No matter how much I like the idea of looking up the information on the internet to answer questions, I think we shouldn't be able to do that. A person could just go up to the internet and search all the answers for the test.

The Magic School Bus:

Today our class watch Magic school bus. There are correct things but also some flaws.

Some things that were incorrect was that digestion takes almost 10 hours to fully digest so it is imposable to crack the bus in a few seconds. The second flaw was that the digestion takes place in complete darkness so it should be imposable to see what was happening. The last flaw I am going to talk about is they only showed the gib intestine absorb food. The truth is that they both absorbe food.

Some things that were correct is that the stomch acids do help break down food and some things do not get completely break down in the stomach.

A rioting has broke in at least 3 cities with the people and police when a teenager boy was shot. Students has been battling the police for 3 days since the boy was shot dead at Athens on Saturday. But there may be more problems since people are planning to protest in 5 more other places. The two police officers who was connected to the boys death has been arrested. It was said that people were throwing stones at the polices car. Soon after the incident, news, and protests has been spreading across the country at a very fast rate. The Greek government is trying to calm its people but lots of people are blaming the government for its violence.

Problem with Porks

Any meat made form pigs has been removed from supermarkets from the UK. Experts think that the food pigs eat contained a dangerous contagious disease called dioxins which would have effected the meat. However, the risk of getting the disease is low but it is always good to be careful. You don't need to worry, because eating a little bite off a infected meat won't effect your health. But alot of infected meat will put you at a risk. Irland sends out their meat into lots of different places all around the world. France, Germany, Russia, and Netherlands all have pork fon Irland imported there every year. In 2007 130000 tons of Irland pork was sent all over the wrold. The government are saying that they are doing all they could. They are checking some pig farms that they think is the problem. Hopefully this case won't turn out to be similar to the poison milk in China.

The rain forest destruction has sped up the first time in four years. The people who monitored the forest said that more than 4500 square miles of the rain forest was chopped down during August 2007 to July 2008. This size is more than half of Whales and four times more than the previous year. Experts said that it could have been worst without Brazil's illegal logging. Four years ago, Brazil destroyed 10500 square miles of rain forest each year, which is about about two times the current rate. The latest increase was because of farmers clearing the forest to farm. Now the Brazil government is going to introduce more more ways to deal with this problem. The Amazon Rain Forest is the biggest rain forest in the world and is nicknamed "The Earth's Lungs". The trees help us clean the air which we breath.

Attacks in India are Over

The attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai is over. Armed groups attacked seven different places in the city and 100 people was held as a host on Thursday. On Friday the Indian polices has saved lots of hostages and have control over most of the buildings the gunman has targeted. At least 195 people has died in the attack including some of the gunman. But the Indian government also said that they caught some people who were suspected as the attackers. The officials are still investigating on the attack. So far, they have found an abandoned boat and are trying to figure out if this boat is linked to the attack somehow. The luxury Taj Mahal Palace hotel was the last place the security gained back control. This hotel has a 105 years of history and used to be the best hotel, but the attack has almost completely ruined it. Polices and soldiers are checking all 560 rooms to make sure that there is no one left inside the building.

Pod of Whales Stuck on the Beach

There was a pod of whales that included 64 mothers and their calf was found at Anthony's Beach on Saturday night, but a lot of them has died already. Only 11 of the whales survived. They were kept alive by buckets of water and wet cloth before they were moved to deeper waters. Some of them were fitted with tracking devices. Scientists are hoping that these whales will join other pods. Right now scientists are trying to see where they are going and if there are other pods in the world that are stuck on the beach like this one.

Wildfire in LA

There are more that 1000 firefighters that are fighting three huge wildfires in Southern California. Thr fires to the north, north-west, and south Los Angeles are said to be the worst fires that has happened in 40 years. 50000 people had to leave their homes and watch them being burned down. There are about 1031 firefighters, 211 fire engines, 12 helicopters and 15 bulldozers are all trying to keep the fire away from the built-up areas.11 people has been injured but nobody died. Hopefully the wildfires will go away soon.

McCain is going to speak to seven states in America while Obama is going for three. The winner will be named the 44th American presedent on Wednesday morning in the UK. Obama is at the lead this moment but things can change. Winning the election isnt just abut the most votes but you need to win them in the right places. The 50 states of America is given a value depending on how many people lives there. The values are trned into electors. So California has 55 electors. Cheetah Found by a 9 Years Old Boy Found a Cheetah!

A nine-year-old boy in Cambridgeshire was very surprised when he came to face with a real life cheetah in his back garden. The boys name is called Toby and he ran inside his house when a big spotted cat leaps onto his bike and started tearing his seat. The cheetah escaped from a nearby zoo and was captured soon afterward. The cheetah is three years old and one of the fastest animal on earth. However, the zoo directer claimed that cheetahs are harmless and do not hurt people. The reason the cheetah escaped was because its wire fence was broken but its fence is fixed now. I think that cheetahs are harmless unless you hurt them. But I think that they wont be scared to attack a 9 year old kid.

I learned more about blogging and how to comment. I also learned about learning and that just by memorizing things isnt a very good way to learn because sometimes you dont know what something means so memorizing it will be useless. I agree with one of my tablemates that everybody has their own way of learning. Some people might find it easier to memorize everything while some people will find it harder. Also when you blog, you shoudnt post comments just to say worthless things like "First to comment!" ans things similar to that. Be thoughtful when you comment and dont go off topic. It will be very frusterating when you are searching something about dogs but you found something about fish instead. When you comment or blog, dont be disrespectful because people can see you. These are some of the things I learned. I really enjoyed reading my tablemates blog posts.

Re-do System

I think that teachers do this re-do system is to let us have a second chance to do our work and get a better grade. A Dog Risks his Life to Save Four Kittens.

When there was a fire in ta house with two dogs, one of the dogs managed to escape. But the other dog stayed in the house to guard four kittens as the flame spreads through the house. The animals were rushed to safety but they had to have medical treatments. All of the animals are safe now and doing well.

People think that it is hust not right to dress up in costumes of monsters. They think that it is too scary for children. Instead of dressing like vampire and ghosts they prefer children to dress like pirates to go trick-or-treating. They are also organizing over 500 Halloween parties that are not as scary. Mark Davis, the bishop of Middleton, said that he has seen some very grusome mask selling in supermarkets and stores. Some of the parents also didnt want gruesome things. They asked the supermarket and they agreed to stop selling some of the gruesome masks.

I think some of the best resources to start with on a research or a project is wikipedia. I think that wikipedia is a good source because each of the topic contains lots of information and the informations are all very well writen and most of the words are easy to understand. Other websites such as worldbook is also a good choice but you must be careful because some websites may contain fake information.

Some of the websites I often use when doing a research are wikipedia. I also might use world book but since I have just been introduced to worldbook so I haven't really got a chance to use it. If I really lack of information then I might do a random websites off google search but I will always be careful and try to find out which information is fake and which information is real.

But a really weird storm hits Australia and huge hailstones falls out of the sky. 11000 thunder strikes was recorded during the storm. Thousands of houses was left without power. A pilot of a flying plane shouted a warning to his partner after spotting a flying object. This incident happened in 1991. The pilot said that the object he saw was brown and missle shaped. There are lots of people in this world that keeps snakes as pets but did you know that some people think its relaxing with snakes slithering on them!? Well, in Israel, a salon has opened and they let snakes slither on the customers to help the ease their pain. Ara Barak came up with this idea when she saw how comfortable and relaxing her friend looked when her friend was holding her pet snake. The typed of snakes has a different effect. For example, the large Florida king snakes help aching muscles, while smaller snakes like milk snakes creates a fluttering effect! None of the snakes there are poisonous but if that dosent convince you how about a mouse message?

Cat Mystery

There is a 1000 award for who offers to try to find out why 28 cats has died in a few weeks in Somerset in Western England. Some experts think that the cats are being poisoned. Studing Skills I am Already Using

One of the studying skills I am already using is concentrating part. I can write my homework as long as I need to 1-2h but as long as there is a break in between. The learning skills I really need to work on are the re-writing and the summary skills. I am very bad at these two skills because I lack of patience and hate sitting at one place reading and memorizing the same thing over and over again. I am also very bad at remembering things so skills such as re-writing and summary dont work very well for me. I use the traffic light skill but I only do when there are huge tests or projects or else I rarely use them because of the time they take up.

I think it is both important to have the right answer and to have a clear answer. If you hadve a correct answer but you did it is very hard to understand and the people who reads it can get confused easily, then there is no point in doing it. But is you got a wrong answer but it is very easy to understand and read, then even if the people can read it it is still the wrong answer. So I think that a answer should be clear because the people who reads it can understand it, and have the correct answer.

What is blogging and why is it good for students and teachers?

A blog is very similar to an online journal. The journal-like pages on a blog can consists of pictures and photos. When another user goes to that blog the user can leave a comment about that blog post. When blogging you can reflect on your own experience as well as others. Teachers can communicate with students using blogging and parents can see and learn about what their child is learning. When students blog they can reflect on others blogs and allows teachers to correct their mistakes and learn from them. Blogging is also very fun for students and allows the student to be more engaged.

How do you blog?

You know what blogging is but you might ask the question "How DO you blog?"
Its very simple actually. You can post a article, or something that happened in your life, ect. Then you write about you topic in your blog by giving it a main part of the post. Writing a blog post is just like writing a e-mail. A blog is a easy way of sharing you information on the internet.

Why should I write a blog?

There is actually NOT ONE single reason to write a blog. A blog is just a tool for you to do work and a way to share your ideas.

Can I blog on my laptop?

Blogging takes place right on your web browser. All you need to do is log into your blog. Just like a e-mail. There are lots of applications on blogging.

Getting started.

Before you get started you must remember that your blogs can be seen by you parents, friends, and family. So try not to write anything that will get you into trouble. Then the rest is very easy. You just log in to you blog and start blogging!

Some tips about blogging.

1. Imagine that you are someone else. How would you feel if you were looking at you own blog?

2.Since blogging takes place online the chances of getting caught is very slim. However, dont forget that there is a actual humen being in front of the computer so please dont think that a low stander of personal behavioer is ok.

3.It is perfectly ok that one area may be rude in another area but SPREADING RUMORS is unacceptable.

4.When people read you message or post they are wasting their time to read something worth reading so dont post things that are not even worth looking at.

5.Make yourself look good online.

6.Share your knowledge with other people. There are lots of people asking questions and if you know one of the answers then answer the question.

7. Expressing you opinion strongly is ok but it is forbidden to send angry letters or threaten the person who dosent agree with you.

8.Respect other peoples privacy.

9.Dont abuse you power. SOme people have more power than other people but they DO NOT have the right to take over or control them.

10.Forgive other peoples mistakes. People make mistakes but forgive them.

Safty when blogging.

On some of the blogs there are lots of inappropriate sites. So be informed about the risks and do NEVER EVER give out personal information. When you are chatting know who you are chatting to. You can also fake your information.

Commenting on other people's blogs.

commenting on other people's blogs is like walking into their house and starting a conversation with them. Be specific and try not to change the subject. Just what is more annoying than to go to a place where it says "One Piece" but when you go in there there are teachers talking about homework? Try to contribute new information. 15 people just giving the same information over and over again i just useless. When there is a comment that says "Things like how are you?" e-mail it to the person who commented instead. Also be respective all the time.

What I Learned in the Section on Learning and Thinking

In this section of the learning quest I learned about learning and thinking. I learned alot about steps to learning and how I can learn. These things include things like skills, learning, understanding, bloom's taxonomy, steps to learning, and learning skills. I learned lots of things that I usually woudnt have even think of learning. For example, usually I woudnt just ask myself the question "What does learning really mean?", or "What are the steps to learning?". But know I understand more about learning and thinking. One of the things I learned are learning tools, which has proven to be very useful. I learned how to words like knowledge has a deeper meaning. Before I would just say that knowledge is just something you know but it is actually very complicated to even just explain the word. This lesson also made me think how I learn things. I will think how I learned things and ask what steps did I take to learn this thing. I also used lots of things on mindmapping.

Wildfire in California!

So far two people has died because of the wildfire and 1200 people had their homes torn by the wildfire. 1000 firefighters has been trying to put the flames out but the blowing winds are fanning the flames making it very hard to put the fire out. The man in charge of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has declared a state of emergency in two of its counties. Lots of wildfires occur in southern California during October and February. The reason why is because the desert wind blows into the area drying out plants and makes it more likely for a wildfire to start. Hopefully there wont be anymore wildfires this year.

A Weird and Wacky Pet Shop in New York

A very unusual pet shop has opened in New York. Everybody that goes inside looks so shocked. The animals in the shop are behaving very weirdly. For example, there is a monkey that watches TV all day. But none of them are real, because it is actually an art exhibition. The animals there may all look very cool but there is also a serious side about them all too. This exhibition is to make people think about our relationships with animals and how we treat them. Fish strips in a goldfish bowl might represent that lots of people love keeping fish as pets but also thinks its ok to eat them. Banksy, the shops owner said "I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing."

It might not seem surprising but listening to loud music with earphones can damage you hearings. If you listen to loud music every hour a day in 5 years the damage can be permanent. If someone beside you can hear the music then the music is too loud. People suggest that you put a limit to your mp4 or ipod. Experts in the UK and Japan caught 17 strange looking fish near Japan. Researchers are very excited about the new fish they found. They caught this fish that is living under 6000 meters under the ocean. These snailfish live in total darkness and near-freezing temperature because in the part of the ocean they live sunlight cant reach them. These fish feeds on thousands of shrimp like creatures. Researchers found out that they live in groups. These are one of the animals that live in one of the most extreme environments on Earth.

The skydivers were one of the first people to parachute the worlds highest peek! There are three adventurers. One from New Zealand, UK, and Canada. They are going to freefall for one minute before they open up their parachutes. They are going to open their parachutes after jumping from 9000 meters. When they jumped off the plane they had to use breathing equiptment, extra-thick parachute, and special suits to be able to make the journey saftley. The trip took 15 years to plan.

How do you test a polar bears hearing? It sounds like a joke but its actually true! Scientists in California are testing to see if the sound of the Arctic ice melting is effecting the bears hearing. The Arctic is usually very quiet but the ice, which is needed for polar bears to survive, are melting! The scientists are curious about how sensitive bears are to these noises. The scientists are worried that the increasing noise might scare the bears or make them think its a sign of food. Scientists found out that a bears senses are more sensitive then humans.
